MENTORING OF STUDENTS

During the program, each intern is assigned to a primary “home base” hospital where most of the rotations are completed.  Therefore, interns in the Sodexo Dietetic Internship benefit from close, consistent interaction with a preceptor who is on site, full-time as a Clinical Nutrition Manager at the hospital in which the intern is placed.  This one-on-one relationship helps to provide individualized instruction.  Ongoing evaluation and feedback between the intern and the preceptor ensure that competencies and intern objectives are being met.

The facilities that are currently being used as internship sites are:

  • Johns Hopkins Hospital*, Baltimore, MD

  • St. Joseph Medical Center, Towson, MD

  • Maryland General Hospital, Baltimore, MD

  • George Washington University Hospital

  • Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, MD

  • Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville, MD

  • The Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, Rockville, MD

  • Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, DC

  • Suburban Hospital, Bethesda, MD

*2 interns placed at Johns Hopkins

In addition to a dedicated preceptor for each intern, an Internship Director, who assists with curriculum development, intern selection, supervision and evaluation, guides the Dietetic Internship.  The Internship Director interacts weekly with the interns in class and on regular site visits to talk with interns and preceptors to ensure program consistency and quality of experience.
