TUITION:
$8,000 (subject to
change). One half of the tuition
is due upon acceptance to the program and the other half prior to the start
of the program. Financial aid is not available for this program,
we do not have the ability to accept credit cards, and cannot take payment
plans. Interns do have the option of working part time
during the internship.
ORIENTATION AND CLASS WEEK:
Interns are responsible for transportation,
housing and food during orientation and class week. Orientation
(dubbed RD Camp by the class of 2004) is held in
New Hampshire
at
Oliver Lodge in Meredith, New
Hampshire: September 23-30, 2010 (Thursday-Thursday) for Intern Group 1 and
October 5-October 12, 2010 (Tuesday-Tuesday) for Intern Group 2.
Interns will be assigned to either Group 1 or Group 2
shortly after match day. The cost
for all lodging and food for this 8-day orientation is $700
per intern. Interns will share rooms and cooking detail in order to keep
the expense down. All interns will be required to stay at the lodge and
attendance at orientation is mandatory.
Interns should NOT plan to have family members come with them, even if they
do not plan to have them stay at the lodge. Interns are very busy during
this week, and also part of the purpose for the week is to build a community
with their classmates. Transportation to the Lodge is the
responsibility of each intern and cost will vary depending on where the
intern is coming from.
Class week is generally held
on the West Coast in April.
Location is decided by class consensus and is dependent
on the geographic locations of the interns. While attendance at one of the class weeks is
strongly encouraged (many of
our interns have said it should be mandatory), an alternate self-study class week will be available to those
interns for whom attendance at class week would be a hardship. The cost for
the self-study will be $250 to cover the cost of
materials and correcting of assignments. Transportation, food and
lodging are the responsibility of the intern and will vary depending on the
geographic location of the intern.
TRANSPORTATION:
Interns are responsible for means and cost of all
transportation. This will vary depending on how
far the intern lives from the rotation sites. Interns are liable for safety
in travel to and from assigned areas. Some facilities provide free parking,
but interns may have to pay for parking at some rotation sites.
Interns are responsible for their safety when traveling
to, from and between rotation sites. It is expected that all interns
will hold valid driver's licenses and auto insurance if they will be driving
to rotation sites.
HOUSING:
Interns are responsible for providing their own housing and
costs will vary depending on location. Every effort will be made to place
interns in practice sites convenient to where they live as requested.
MEALS: Interns are
responsible for supplying their own meals while on duty. Interns
must
follow the policies of the facilities in which they are located. Some
facilities provide reduced cost or free meals for employees.
DRESS: Interns are required
to adhere to the practice facilities' dress codes, which usually includes
professional street wear and and may include lab coats. Interns are
responsible for supplying their own lab coats if needed.
Safety shoes may be required for the food service management rotation site.
NOTE: Dress is very casual during orientation week, and is business
casual during class week.
COMPUTER ACCESS:
Computer
access is extremely important in this distance education program as many
activities require group collaboration. All interns are required to have
daily access to a computer, e-mail, and the Internet. We are using
GoToMeeting as our chat room
format. Access to this
chat can be through the phone (not toll free) or a USB headset (access
through headset is free). Chats are weekly throughout the internship.
MISCELLANEOUS COSTS: Most
program materials will be provided at no additional
charge to interns. However, there
are several text books that are suggested or required and the cost of these
are the responsibility of the interns. Cost of the 3 required texts is
approximately $140 if purchased new. Generally there are hospital or
college libraries that are available for interns' use. However,
occasionally, articles must be purchased either through a library or online
and the internship will pay any reasonable costs related to obtaining
necessary articles.
Interns are responsible for expenses associated with
assigned projects and rotations (approximately $200-$250 total) unless there
is money available from the practice site.
Most assignments will be sent to the
reviewers through
e-mail, but there may be some minimal postage costs throughout the year.
Interns are responsible for payment of the ADA student
membership fee (currently $50) prior to entering the Program, and any fees
required for professional meetings and classes attended during the Program,
unless otherwise specified by the Internship Director. Most professional
meetings do have reduced student fees.
Interns will record 2 of their
presentations--one will be sent to a peer reviewer and the other to the
internship director. Interns will need to purchase or borrow a digital
audio and/or video camera so that the presentations can be sent by email or
posted on the Internet.
INSURANCE: Interns are
responsible for obtaining their own health insurance.
Intern must maintain this insurance throughout the internship.
INTERNS MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF THIS
INSURANCE AND THE ADA STUDENT MEMBERSHIP TO THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR UPON
ENTERING THE PROGRAM.
CRIMINAL
BACKGROUND CHECK:
Interns are responsible for
the cost of doing a criminal background
check, which Sodexo will complete. Cost varies depending on state, the
number of names the intern has had and the number of places the intern has
lived in the last 7 years. Cost ranges from $32.50 to $352.00.
Some facilities may require fingerprinting and/or drug testing. This
is the responsibility of the intern. Interns will be notified if these
tests need to be done.
PRE-PROGRAM PHYSICAL:
The medical form must be completed and signed by
a physician prior to entering the program. The medical form contains OSHA required immunizations and
tests as well as a statement that the intern is medically cleared to
participate in the program. Interns will not be able to begin their
rotations until this form has been turned in. Cost of the medical
examination and immunizations is the responsibility of the intern.
PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY:
Interns must provide proof of eligibility prior
to the start of the Program in the form of a DPD Verification Statement from the DPD Director and an
official copy of the final Transcript. Interns will not be able to begin
their rotations without this form.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE EXPENSES:
Interns participating in the
International Experience are responsible for all expenses related to this
experience including, but not limited to:
- Transportation—to, from and within the International Experience
country.
- Housing in the International Experience country.
- All meals during the International Experience
- Passports, visas or other paperwork required by the International
Experience country.
-
Immunizations and/or health forms required by the
International Experience country.
-
Medical and liability insurance coverage if
additional coverage is required
-
Security and safety
documents and tests as may be required by the facility, including drug
tests and fingerprinting
In addition, interns participating in the international
experience will be responsible for the safety of his/her own person and
possessions during travel and stay in the designated country.
